Beyond the Shot: Personal Insights & Inspiration

Embarking on a photgrapher’s path, sharing all I find on the way.

Me

I’m Alex, a photographer, writer, and visual storyteller. My journey with photography began in the early ’90s with a SCOTVEC module, where I first experimented with composition and darkroom processing. Back then, I was always carrying a Kodak 35mm camera, capturing moments that caught my eye.

Life took me in different directions into writing, comics, and digital forensics but photography was always there in the background. It wasn’t until the rise of mobile photography that I truly reconnected with the craft. What started with an iPhone quickly turned into an obsession with studying, experimenting, and refining my approach.

Now, photography is more than just a passion, it’s a constant exploration. Viewfinder Chronicles is where I document my journey, sharing everything I learn along the way:

  • Photography book & course reviews – Diving deep into resources that shape my craft.
  • Interviews with photographers – Learning from artists I admire and sharing their insights.
  • Creative projects – From black-and-white series to experimental storytelling.
  • Gear & technique breakdowns – Exploring the tools and methods that influence visual storytelling.
  • The struggles & breakthroughs – Keeping it real with the highs and lows of creative growth.

I believe photography is a lifelong pursuit there’s always something new to discover, refine, and challenge. Through Viewfinder Chronicles, I want to inspire and connect with others who see the world through a lens, whether you’re just starting out or have been shooting for years.
